A Bothaville woman was kidnapped, viciously assaulted with a hammer, and then subjected to repeated raped by a man known to her.

On Sunday, 26 May, a 24-year-old woman was in a tavern in Kgotsong, Bothaville, when her boyfriend and father of her son forcefully dragged her out of the liquor outlet into a nearby veld.

Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police says the man tripped the victim and then took a hammer that she had hidden and struck her on her right foot and the left side of her neck.

“The man then forced her to his uncle’s house and took her to the bedroom where he hit her with his fist, with the hammer on her left knee and then instructed her to undress. He raped her and then went to the living room to smoke dagga mixed with unknown drugs. She could hear male voices, but could not scream. The rape ordeal lasted until the following day at about 06:00 when the suspect fell asleep and she managed to escape and run to her parents home,” says Thakeng.

The incident was reported to the Bothaville police and a case of kidnapping, assault GBH, and rape was registered for further investigation. No-one has yet been arrested, and the suspect is still on the loose.
