The Free State Open and World Cup Roller Fly qualifier was held on the morning of 26 May in Bloemfontein.

“What made this day special was that 14 roller kits in the FreeState were going to compete to qualify for the World Cup. Only two out of the 14 fanciers could qualify in the newly formed Free State region, wich will move on to represent South Africa against fanciers from all over the world,” says Morne Joubert, chairman of the association.

The Free State region is being spearheaded by Hannes Rossouw acting as regional director, Morne Joubert as chairperson, and Leon Laubscher as deputy chairperson.

The region is divided into two groups. The competition kicked off at the residence of Laubscher who put up a world class kit and performance, and ended up being in the first place.

“For the second round of the competition, we started at Vanderbijlpark at the residence of Hannes Hannes, regional director of the region.

“Icy cold weather and winds made it difficult for the kits, but Hannes came out in first place for the day and ended up in second place overall, making him the second qualifier for the region with Laubscher first overall,” says Joubert.

He says that as the Free State region is in its first year of competing, they would like to thank all the pigeon fanciers who competed.
