Light shines brightest when the environment is at its darkest.

I believe you will agree with me that we are experiencing a time in our country, as well as the world, when it seems as if the darkness is gaining the upper hand.

We as believers can and are very easily led astray by what is going on around us. This makes us lose perspective as to why we were placed here on earth for a specific time like this.

Our energy is placed and wasted on matters and situations that make no impact or the expansion and enlargement of God’s kingdom here on earth.

Matthew 5:14 says: You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Notice that Jesus said that you are, not that you will be be the light.

The assignment for us as believers is to be light in every situation in which we find ourselves. The more we allow Christ to shine through us, the more darkness is dispelled.

The moment you turn on the light switch, darkness has no choice but to flee.

We cannot and must not allow darkness to continue to paralyse us so that we cannot carry out our God-given assignment of being a light in the lives of our friends, family, or neighbours.

  • Let us embrace the darkness and use it to make the light of the gospel shine continuously brighter and brighter.Dr Jackie Botes, Deo Doxa Churches of Bedelia, Dagbreek and St Helena
