- SAPS discourage residents from taking law into own hands

Every week between Monday and Wednesday SAPS members in the Lejweleputswa District especially those belonging to Social Crime Prevention engage in making the public aware of crime tendencies.
It is here where crime pattern analysis is discussed.
In Thabong police officials will discourage residents from taking law into their own hands.
“They must rather call the police when suspects are caught so that the wheels of justice can roll,” says Capt Stephen Thakeng, media liaison offcer for the district.
This information dissemination will include Gender Based Violence (GBV), theft of copper cable, destruction of the infrastructure, abuse of liquor, residents encouraged to be informers, truck hijackings, stealing of truck tyres and cargo when trucks are parked at truck stop stations especially, in Ventersburg, Winburg and Verkeerdevlei. “They also highlight and discuss stock theft, and distribute information about kidnappings.
“Residents are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings, and ensure that when kidnapped to take note of the following the description of kidnappers, the houses or places where they are kept, the number plates, the colour and the make of the vehicles and the clothing worn by the kidnappers,” says Thakeng.
He says parolees are briefed on how to behave when they are released back into the communities and encouraged not to commit crimes again.
