The discovery of the body of a baby boy in a plastic bag at the Hennenman dumping site has shocked the community.
The SAPS launched a manhunt for the mother after the baby was found by people working at the landfill site on Wednesday, 6 April.
According to Capt. Stephen Thakeng, police spokesperson, the Matjhabeng Municipality’s refuse removal truck picked up the bag containing the baby. It was found in the vicinity of the Matseripe Secondary School in the old location of Mmamahabane, Ventersburg.
“According to the truck driver, Mmamahabane’s trash is dumped in one specific spot at the Hennenman dumping site,” says Thakeng.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the baby boy inside the blue plastic shopping bag was discovered in the spot where Mmamahabane trash is usually dumped.”
The Hennenman SAPS has opened a case of concealment of birth.
