A Child Protection Week event was held at the Dihwai Primary School on 5 June by the Allanridge Social Crime Prevention unit, the community policing forum (CPF) and the Vodacom Foundation.

During the visit awareness was created about bullying, child abuse and children’s rights.

Lt Col Kedibone Gopane of the Lejweleputswa district’s unit for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) was invited by the Office of the Speaker of the Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Mathabo Leeto, to talk to male learners and other stakeholders.

The role and mandate of SAPS was explained, gender-based violence and femicide was discussed with the male learners, and their rights as South African citizens were explained.

The learners were encouraged to work together with the SAPS to endeavour to eradicate crime against women and girls. They were also encouraged to report any form of crime they were aware of.
