The Free State MEC for Health, Mathabo Leeto, visited the Bongani regional district to observe World Autism Month.
During a touching ceremony, Leeto unveiled a plaque of remembrance of clinical and non-clinical staff members who passed on during Covid-19 at the Bongani Hospital.
The outreach also saw her observing Autism Awareness Day, that was held during her visit to the hospital.
This was a public awareness event to inform and educate the public about autism.
Autism is a condition which can cause hyper activity in some children who will need special care.
Children born with autism need to access services such as speech therapy, occupational and physiotherapy, psychology and social work services.
They are taught to do differentiate things they use on daily basis such as colours, texture and shapes.
“They are also equipped with vocational skills for future development,” says Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson for Free State Health.
