Members of the national portfolio committee for small enterprise came to Welkom on 30 October to address the state of small business development and the future development thereof at a meeting held in the Ferdi Meyer Hall.

The meeting was well-attended and the National Small Enterprise Amendment Bill was presented and discussed.

“We want to ensure that small businesses are helped by government and we also want to centralise the sevices government gives to them,” says Hein April, member of the committee.

April hails from Bronville. He took the members of the delegation, which included the parliamentary protection services and members of the national police, to a restaurant in the Strip for lunch, taking in the state of the local economy.

“We support local business. We need to boost the local economy.

“Ninety percent of the delegation was not from Welkom, but if only one Welkomite can introduce 90% of the people they meet to Welkom, it will be a tremendous boost to the local economy,” he told Vista.
