With only a small team of only 23 athletes, the learners of the Riebeeckstad High School finished third overall in the district during the Lejweleputswa Athletics Championship that was held on 21 February in Sasolburg. Fifteen of the young athletes qualified to participate at the upcoming Free State Athletics championship. In the senior age groups, Bania Lulua was recognised as the fastest girl in the U16 age category, winning both the 100 m and the 200 m. The school’s U16 relay girls team finished third in their own right. Andries Moreki (U15) came first in the 1 500 m and second in the 1 500 m steeple chase, and Thlolo Moeketsi (U15) finished second in long jump. In the U15 age category, Ofentse Pebane came third in 1 500 m steeple chase, and Kgauhelo Lepheane claimed third place in the 3 000 m. Among the athletes in the U16 category, Prince Masowa finished second in the 2 000 m steeple chase and the 3 000 m, whilst Katleho Mokhothu came first in the 2 000 m steeple chase. Atlehang Erasmus (U17) finished in first place in the 2 000 m steeple chase, and came in second in the 3 000 m event.
