A strong team of marathon runners of the Goudveld Multisport club will take part in the 2025 Comrades Marathon’s iconic 90km Down Run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, this Sunday, on 8 June.

“In the build-up, the club hosted a series of spirited events, namely the annual Comrades Breakfast Run (17 May), a heartfelt soup evening send-off (22 May), and a special blessing at the club’s pre-race church service this past Sunday, 1 June. Camaraderie, encouragement, and veteran wisdom filled the air as our athletes prepared for the challenge ahead,” says Dean Dodd of the club.

Dodd says among the club’s hopefuls is novice Ntobeko Ngwenya, aiming to conquer his first Comrades, while

Chrisan Hellawell returns for her Back-to-Back medal.

Louis Fourie eyes his tenth finish – a remarkable milestone that will earn him a Green Number and a place in Comrades history.

This year’s race features a new staggered start. Group 1 starts at 05:45 and group 2 at 06:00.
