Welkom girl Tyla Wasmuth is making a name for herself in the world of athletics, and was named the best female field athlete at the university’s first year athletics meet this year.

Tyler matriculated from Goudveld-Hoërskool in 2024 and is currently a first-year student at the University of the Free State.

She participated in various ASA Leagues in Bloemfontein and broke several records. Tyler was included in the ASA Free State team and participated in the U20 category during the SA’s.

Here she obtained a bronze medal for discus and also threw a personal best (PB) of 50.84m. She achieves a PB of 13.01 in shot put and ended 7th.

Tyla was also included in

the senior Free State ASA team and will participate at the SAs from 24 to 26 April in Potchefstroom. She will also participate in USSAS from 1 to 3 May in Pretoria.

“Tyla’s goal is to develop her full potential and to do what she does to glorify the Lord’s Name. She still has hard work ahead of her but enjoys every moment in the circle.

“She has big dreams for the future, but with endurance, determination and discipline she hopes to improve her distances,” says her proud father Wassie Wasmuth.
