The Major 1 Films is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that trains adults, children, and youths in theatre, poetry, and dance.

They will be hosting their year-end function in conjunction with the first years’ graduation ceremony. The celebrations will be held at the Thabong Community Centre on Saturday, 2 December.

The students will perform poetry, monologues and a theatre piece titled Matilda in Solitude.

In addtion to this, there will be other supporting performances by the Unsung DanceTerio Arts Academy, CoverSong Singers, and The Great Bright Stars.

Tickets will cost R30 for adults and R10 for children. All funds raised will go to the artists.

For the past six months students of various ages have been attending free workshops organised by The Major 1 Films.

The facilitators of the workshops are veteran performers and producers of films, all based in Welkom.

The artists were part of the recently made film Axiomatic Truth, made entirely in Lejweleputswa and produced by Redeemer Pictures. Most of the students acted in the movie and performed live at the movie’s launch on 1 September.

Auditions and registrations for this free training programme will open again early next year when funding is approved.

Successful applicants will get lessons from film directors and producers, as well as legendary actors and theatre practitioners in the entertainment industry.
