The ill-famed stretch of the R30 provincial route between Allanridge and Bothaville has claimed yet another life.
On Wednesday (24/08) at about 06:10, a lawyer (37) was travelling from Rustenburg to Bloemfontein when the tragedy occurred.
The driver lost control of the vehicle on the stretch of gravel on the R30, and drowned when his car crashed in the pan.
“A farmer, Johan Ferreira, who witnessed the incident, retrieved the deceased from the water,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
An inquest is being investigated by Allanridge Detective Services.
- On Saturday 23 April six people died and five were seriously injured when a white Iveco 22-seater minibus overturned and plunged into this pan of water, about 5 km from Allanridge. Since January when heavy rains caused flooding on this stretch of road, more than 25 people have died and more than 50 have been injured.
