In an effort for the Matjhabeng Local Municipality to be held liable for the critical sewerage infrastructure in Kutlwanong, Thabiso Letlhaka, DA councillor, has written to the municipal manager demanding action.
He warns that Matjhabeng faces a critical sewerage infrastructure crisis, with Kutlwanong among the most affected areas.
“The municipality is failing to address this crisis. Residents’ houses are flooded with sewage, affecting their health and dignity. Efforts to rehabilitate the sewerage infrastructure (Kutlwanong wastewater treatment plant) have been dragging on for a long time. Despite the municipality declaring a crisis and allocating funds for infrastructure rehabilitation, progress has been very slow.”
The persistent sewer problems in ward 18, Kutlwanong, highlight the urgent need for effective intervention and accountability, Letlhaka believes.
“We will also call for Section 79 Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) to investigate the matter.
“Residents of Matjhabeng deserve better service delivery and to live in a healthy environment,” Letlhaka has stated.
