The remarkable journey of Moratwe Mmaneo Elizabeth Gaitsiwe Motsamai began on 8 August 1945, the day she was born in Senekal.

Moratwe is the second-born daughter of Mohoje Jeremia Motsamai and Violet Motsamai, and her dedication to education and the arts has left an indelible mark on the Thabong community and beyond.

After completing her schooling in Matwabeng, Senekal, Moratwe began her teaching career in 1963 and served the profession from 1964 until her retirement in 2020.

Began teaching career

During this remarkable 56-year career, she pursued further studies part-time, earning a Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) in 1987, a Secondary Education Diploma (SED) in 1990, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1997, and a BA with Honours in 1999.

Beyond the classroom, Moratwe is a woman of many talents who has been recognised with numerous awards for her contributions to music, choral performance, and cultural activities, including the prestigious Monyanyako and Moqoqopelo accolades.

Her creative spirit also shines through in her writing. She authored the celebrated piece Dinnete tsa Mmakoma, which continues to inspire learners at the Lenyora School and the wider community.

Creative spirit shines through

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Moratwe is an accomplished entrepreneur. Her product, Motsumi, showcases her business acumen and commitment to local enterprise. She has also penned a book, further cementing her role as a cultural leader and mentor.

Since retiring, Moratwe remains actively engaged in community life.

She is a proud member of the Thabong Retired Teachers Association and the Seniors in Action Sports Club in Thabong, where she continues to share her love of song and dance.

The Thabong community celebrates Moratwe Motsamai as a role model − a lifelong learner, educator, artist, and entrepreneur whose influence will be felt for generations to come.
