Morena Motaung and Nani Malakoane are local ultra, or long distance endurance, marathon athletes who endeavour to shine out in the world of marathons.
It has been a humbling journey for the two. In October they ran their first big marathon, the iconic Cape Town Marathon, and on 9 November they both ran the 2024 Soweto Marathon. Motaung finished the 21 km race in a time of 1:50:04, and Malakoane finished the 42,2 km in 3:44:38.
Both echoed that they are extremely happy with the results.
“Their hard work really paid off, and Morena and Nani would like to thank God, their families, and the Welkom running community for all the support,” says Rito Madingana, Motaung’s brother.
“Morena concluded that he will remain humbled because he learned a lot from others.”
